About Us

Founded in 1975 and located in Chicago's West Loop, Whitney M. Young Magnet High School (WY) has a tradition of academic excellence and ethnic and cultural diversity.

Whitney M. Young High School received the National Blue Ribbon Award in 2020 and is ranked the 3rd Best Illinois High School (U.S. News Best High Schools, 2024), 2nd Most Diverse High School in Chicago and Illinois (Niche, 2024), 4th Best Chicago High School (Chicago Magazine, September 2019), and 9th Best Magnet High School in the U.S. (Niche, 2024). Whitney M. Young Magnet High School offers a very rigorous college preparatory curriculum with two programs: The Magnet High School program grades 9–12, and Academic Center grades 7-8. Demographically, the school is a microcosm of the entire city, as its enrollment is drawn from the city at large.
