Who is FoWY?

Friends of Whitney Young (FoWY) is a non-profit organization of Whitney Young parents, alumni, and community volunteers that provides volunteer support and raises funds to support student and faculty initiatives that enhance the academic experience for each Whitney Young student. Our three major fundraising focuses are:

• The FoWY Annual Fund is a source of funds for dozens of academic programs, clubs, arts and athletics at Whitney Young not funded by CPS. FoWY collects financial donations from parents and guardians to fund our faculty, staff and student clubs, teams and academic programs. Since 2002 nearly $1,000,000 in grants have been awarded.

• Spring Bash, which is a fun, all school, adult-only event for faculty, staff, parents and alum which raises funds for our student’s athletics, arts, music and clubs. This is a great fun evening of food, music and community with a silent auction and the raffle for a new car.

In addition, we provide volunteer support at a number of events such as Freshman Connection, Community Day, New Student Orientation, Open House and more. We encourage all Whitney Young families, from 7th to 12th grades, to participate as much as possible, and please give what you can.  We look forward to working with you toward even greater success this year.
