What is the Dr. Joyce Kenner Retirement Celebration & Roast?
It’s a party to celebrate Whitney Young’s longest serving, dedicated, beloved Principal! It’s a party to celebrate our friend and family member! It’s a night of food, drinks, dancing and entertainment!

When and where is the party?
Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Venue West, 221 N. Paulina Street. It is a chic, modern, industrial space not far from Whitney Young.

Are children invited to the party?
You must be 21 or over to attend.

Is there parking?
There is a parking lot across the street with plenty of free spaces.

Is it a sit-down dinner?
Dr. Joyce Kenner’s Retirement Party & Roast is a cocktail party with an open bar serving wine, beer, cocktails and a specialty drink. We will also have plenty of delicious hors d’oeuvres.

What time is the event?
The party begins at 7PM and goes until 11PM.

Tell me about the Roast?
The Roast will be hosted by Whitney Young Boys Basketball Coach Tyrone Slaughter. He, along with several friends of Dr. Kenner will share memories and funny stories to entertain the guests and honor Dr. Kenner.

Is there seating at the event during the Roast?
There will be open seating to accommodate some of the guests. There are also a limited number of reserved tables available for purchase.

What is the dress code?
Dr. Kenner likes to dress up, so think “Saturday Night Chic”.

Is there music?
There will be a DJ and dancing!

Should I bring a gift?
Dr. Kenner asks that in lieu of gifts you make a donation to her favorite charity, the Dr. Joyce Kenner Legacy Project. Your donation will help to make needed improvements around all three buildings on the Whitney Young campus, replacing decades-old brown doors and dingy walls with fresh paint and murals, much like the "Pillars" mural that was recently installed.
