What Is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving - after Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, there is Giving Tuesday.

It was a simple idea - a day that encourages people to do good and has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give and celebrate generosity.

At Whitney Young, Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to give back to the Whitney Young program of your choice. Whether it's to the Annual Fund, Whitney Young Refresh or Dolphin Pond your gift reaches every student; it's tax-deductible, very needed and much appreciated. If you donate $500 or more to the Annual Fund, your name will be included on our new Champions Among Us donor wall.

This year, your donation could be matched if you donate through Facebook. To assure we receive Facebook's match, please make your donation early before they reach their cap.

About Us

Founded in 1975 and located in Chicago's West Loop, Whitney M. Young Magnet High School (WY) has a tradition of academic excellence and ethnic and cultural diversity.

Whitney Young High School received the National Blue Ribbon Award in 2020 and is ranked the 4th best high school in Illinois (U.S. News & World Report, April 2021), and the 2nd most diverse high school in Illinois (Niche, June 2021). Whitney M. Young Magnet High School offers a very rigorous college preparatory curriculum with two programs: Magnet High School program grades 9–12, and Academic Center grades 7 & 8. Demographically, the school is a microcosm of the entire city, as its enrollment is drawn from the city at large.
