About Us

Founded in 1975 and located in Chicago's West Loop, Whitney M. Young Magnet High School (WY) has a tradition of academic excellence and ethnic and cultural diversity.

Ranked the 4th best high school in Illinois (U.S. News & World Report, May 2019), and the most diverse high school in Illinois (Niche, June 2019). Whitney M. Young Magnet High School offers a very rigorous college preparatory curriculum with two programs: Magnet High School program grades 9–12, and Academic Center grades 7 & 8. Demographically, the school is a microcosm of the entire city, as its enrollment is drawn from the city at large.
