Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Campaign for Whitney Young?

Fueled by a legacy of academic excellence, our students go all out every day to develop into the very best students they can be. After more than 40 years of wear and tear, our building is showing its age. It's time to go all in to make much needed capital improvements.

Our dilapidated exterior field has been transformed into the beautiful new Michelle Obama Athletic Complex. Now we're turning our attention to much-needed improvements inside the building that will benefit every single student as well as the teachers.

What kind of capital improvements?

The capital improvements needed are not the bones of the building, but the furniture, auditorium, classrooms, science labs, library, teacher spaces and more! This School of Champions, and the students and teachers that occupy the classrooms and hallways, deserve a facility where they can continue to work and succeed. Our goal is to raise $500,000 through the Campaign for Whitney Young and have already raised $100,000 in the campaign!

If I decide to make a donation to the Campaign for  Whitney Young, is the donation tax-deductible?

Yes, we are a 501 (c)(3) and donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

If I have questions about the campaign, how can I discuss this further?

Contact Whitney Young’s Development Director Deb Keegan at 773-534-7500 x23719 or wydevelopment@yahoo.com.

Building on Excellence

The Campaign for Whitney Young

Fueled by a legacy of academic excellence, our students go all out every day to develop into the very best scholars, musicians, actors, athletes, doctors, lawyers, dancers, scientists, artists, problem solvers - you name it. It's a place where students can be themselves and become who they want to be.

More than 80,000 students from across the city of Chicago have walked the halls of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in the 40+years since it opened as the city's very first school of its kind.

After decades of wear and tear, our building is showing its age. It's time to go all in to make much-needed capital improvements.

Please support the Campaign for Whitney Young. With your help we will continue to be an anchor in the community - where students go all out.
