Where the Campaign Funds

Are Going

 

Every dollar raised will be used for capital improvements at Whitney Young including:

• Creating exceptional science labs with enhanced spaces and technology 

• Replacing teacher cubicles in disrepair with professional, inspiring work spaces

• Installing new tennis court surfaces benefiting the Whitney Young tennis teams, all students and neighbors. A $70,000 match has been offered to us by USTA to pay for these costs.

We have already raised enough funds to help replace the broken lighting in the theater with new LED lighting which benefits all performing arts programs including Asian American Club, Guys & Dolls, Young Company etc. Ms. Jeong the Arts Department Chair expressed her appreciation with this message:

"I just wanted to thank you for all for our theater lights! They are amazing!!!! After years and years of draining our funds to rent lights this concert season we are finally using our own lights. Thank you for taking charge on this monumental task of replacing lights in the theater. Thank you everyone for your support!!!!"

More than 80,000 students from across the city of Chicago have walked the halls of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in the 40+years since it opened as the city's very first school of its kind. 
 
After decades of wear and tear, our building is showing its age. It's time to go all in to make much-needed capital improvements.
